Baccarat en Banque: A European variation of baccarat with the casino acting as the bank.
Chemin-de-fer: Another European variation of baccarat, with one of the players as the bank.
Mini-baccarat: A variation of Baccarat played on a smaller table with fewer players.
Phrases
Banco: What the betting player says when he wants to match the bank.
Banco Prime: When more than one player calls "Banco", the privilege to match the bank, known as banco prime, is given to the player to the bank's right.
Bets
Banker Bet: When a player bets that the banker will win.
Player Bet: When a player bets that the player will win.
Tie Bet: When a player bets that the game will end in a tie.
Card Terms
Down Card: The first two cards of the deal, known as down cards, are dealt face down so that only the player can see them.
Burn: A number of cards are eliminated after the deck has been cut.
Discard Tray: Where the cards no longer in play are kept.
Up card: A card that is dealt face up. In baccarat the third card of the deal is an up card.
Shoe: The wooden box in which the cards are stacked.
Palette: A wooden tool that shifts the cards on the table.
Personnel
Croupier: The dealer in baccarat.
High Roller: A player playing with a big bankroll.
Hands
Le Grande: The best hand in baccarat with a hand value of 9.
Petite: Second best hand in baccarat with the value of 8.
Miscellaneous
House Edge: The advantage that the casino has over players. In baccarat this advantage is the commission charged by the casino on the winnings.
Layout: The baccarat table that shows the different bets that may be made and where these bets are placed.
Standoff: When the banker and the player tie in a baccarat game.
